Refrigeration Equipment Recycling

Refrigeration Equipment Recycling

Collection and recycling of any type of cooling appliance.

Domestic Appliances

20-01-35* and 20-01-23*

We will recycle any domestic cooling appliance, including

  • Fridges, freezers & fridge-freezers
  • Chest freezers
  • Countertop/under-counter fridges & freezers
  • American-style fridge-freezers
  • Air conditioners
  • Dehumidifiers
  • Heat pumps
  • Wine/beverage coolers
  • Ice cream makers

Older appliances use harmful and ozone-depleting coolants such as CFCs, HFCs, HCFCs, & HBFCs. These use the 20-01-23* EWC code. To minimize the risk of coolant discharge, these should be managed with additional care and not be stored longer than necessary.

Some refrigerators, usually from caravans and motorhomes, use ammonia as a coolant. Also known as absorption refrigerators, you can spot these appliances by a characteristic thick coil in their refrigeration loop.

Ammonia gas is toxic and corrosive, causes damage to the skin, eyes & lungs, and has a foul odour. You should not store end-of-life ammonia refrigerators in enclosed spaces, and should recycle them as promptly as possible, to minimize the risks of coolant leaks.

Collection FAQs

We can normally recycle ICT equipment from charities, schools and businesses free-of-charge. 8 in 10 of our ICT collections are completely free!

Sometimes charges apply for the disposal of hazardous wastes such as TVs and monitors, for haulage (depending on your location and the size of the collection), or for enhanced asset tracking & destruction service tiers.

When your consignment is received at the depot, our team will weigh in the waste, and check that all the expected assets have been received. Our expert technicians will remove any identifying marks, and transfer any data storage devices to a secure area pending destruction.

We assess the re-use potential of every item we receive, either as a unit or in parts. If an item cannot be re-used, we will disassemble it and send the materials to one of a handful of trusted downstream partners for recycling.

As an Environment Agency AATF, you can be confident that we will dispose of your waste safely, sustainably and compliantly.

As standard, we will attempt to destroy data digitally using the UK Government HMG IS5 Baseline protocol, free-of-charge, on any data storage device (HDD, SSD, PC, Laptop, Tablet, etc) we receive. This treatment means drives can safely be re-used — the most sustainable option. To facilitate this, we boast a state-of-the-art data erasure suite of fully air-gapped PCs, designed for energy efficiency, located in a secure cage with 24/7 CCTV monitoring. Any drives which fail the erasure process are shredded on-site.

If you require extra assurance, we offer additional service tiers at competitive prices:

  • Serialized destruction paperwork
  • Certified shredding (zero re-use)
  • Callout drive crushing (at your site)
  • Callout drive shredding (at your site)
  • Portable drive crusher day-hire

We’re always happy to provide containers such as IBCs, stillages, bins and skips (subject to availability). Please get in touch to discuss your needs!

We have a one-week lead time for collections in the South West, two-week for UK mainland locations, and we aim to make any collection UK wide within three weeks.

Wherever possible, we respond to all enquiries same- or next-working-day.

We’re extremely proud of our diverse fleet of liveried vehicles which allow us to take on any job, of any size, anywhere in the UK. We have articulated lorries, skip lorries, smaller 7.5T lorries, transit-sized vans, and even a little Ford KA!

For very small collections we may need to charge for haulage. We have partnered with a number of local authorities to provide kerbside collections of small electrical items, click here for more info.

Customers are also welcome to deliver electrical waste in any quantity to our Wellington depot by prior arrangement.

Absolutely! We can arrange WEEE collections from any of your UK, ROI or channel island sites. As well as servicing SMEs, we have a wealth of experience working with ICT & facilities teams from large enterprises, and will always strive to work around your schedule.

All our vehicles are tracked to monitor trip progress and driving style, and to ensure their cargo reaches its destination securely.

For smaller collections, we can only provide an approximate ETA (usually AM/PM and a date) in advance, but on the day of your collection we will send a live tracking link. It will show you an up-to-date ETA all day, and you can watch the driver’s progress on a map once they depart their previous stop.

We will always provide a data destruction certificate following consignments including sensitive information.

If your consignment contains only non-hazardous waste, we will provide a duty-of-care waste transfer note. If the consignment includes hazardous waste, a Hazardous Waste Regulations (HWR) Consignment Note must be carried alongside the waste. If you are not familiar with this document, we can provide one for you, usually for a small fee.

We aim to send all completed paperwork within one week of collection. If your collection was booked by a broker, the paperwork will be sent to them.

All our staff currently travel with hand sanitizer and wear face coverings when working indoors away from the depot. They will be careful to respect 2m+ social distancing at your site. If you have any specific infection control measures in place (such as special access times), just let us know – we are very happy to accommodate your needs.
